SIERRA LEONE CIVIL AVIATION AUTHORITY HOSTS TRAINING ON BEST PRACTICES FOR SECURITY EQUIPMENT INSPECTION

Freetown, Sierra Leone – March 20, 2025 – The Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA), in collaboration with the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC), successfully hosted a four-day training program on Best Practices for Security Equipment Inspection (BPSE) at the SLCAA Training Hall at Freetown International Airport, Lungi. The training, which ran from March 17-20, 2025, brought together key personnel from the SLCAA and Freetown International Airport to enhance their knowledge and skills in ensuring optimal performance of security screening equipment.

The BPSE training, a component of the Civil Aviation Security in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia (CASE II) Project funded and implemented by ECAC, focused on equipping participants with the latest best practices for inspecting, maintaining, and operating security equipment. The training aims to improve airport security and ensure adherence to both national and international aviation security regulations.

The training is designed to:

Ensure the proper inspection and maintenance of security equipment, guaranteeing optimal performance and enhanced airport security.

Support compliance with aviation security regulations, reducing risks associated with non-compliance.

Minimize equipment failures, thereby preventing disruptions in security operations.

Strengthen public trust in airport security measures, ensuring a safer travel environment for all passengers.

In attendance at the training was the Director-General of the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA), Madam Musayeroh Barrie, who underscored the importance of effective security measures in maintaining the safety and security of the aviation sector in Sierra Leone.

Her presence highlighted the SLCAA’s continued commitment to improving aviation security standards and fostering international cooperation in civil aviation.

“This training program is a vital step in ensuring that our airport security systems remain at the forefront of global best practices,” said DG Musayeroh Barrie. “With properly trained personnel and well-maintained equipment, we are building a stronger foundation for the safety of our airport, passengers, and the aviation industry as a whole.”

The BPSE training program has equipped the SLCAA and airport staff with the tools to conduct thorough and effective inspections, ensuring the reliability of security equipment and contributing to a safer and more secure air travel experience for all.

The Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority remains dedicated to upholding the highest standards of aviation security and will continue to work with international partners to improve and enhance the security infrastructure at Freetown International Airport.
