Sierra Leone Hosts Key Aerodrome Safety Course in Freetown
Freetown, Sierra Leone – The Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority recently held a pivotal Aerodrome Safety Management and PANS Aerodromes course, marking a significant step in enhancing the nation’s aviation safety standards. This on-site program was a collaborative effort between the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) and the Korea Office of Civil Aviation, under the Ministry of Lands, Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Korea (MOLIT). It continues the ongoing partnership established by the Memorandum of Understanding between AFCAC and Korea.
The course underscores Sierra Leone’s dedication to strengthening its aviation sector by providing crucial training for professionals involved in flight operations, aerodrome operations, air navigation services, and safety oversight. Participants gained essential knowledge and skills aimed at improving safety and efficiency in these areas.
In her opening remarks, the Director General of the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA), Musayeroh Barrie highlighted the importance of a robust Safety Management System at aerodromes. She emphasized that such systems allow operators to identify, manage, and mitigate risks effectively, thereby establishing preventive measures to avoid incidents. The Director General encouraged participants to engage actively and contribute to the course’s objectives.
