SLCAA HOSTS ICAO WACAF CODEVMET MISSION IN FREETOWN, SIERRA LEONE

The Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA), under the leadership of its Director General, Madam Musayeroh Barrie, proudly hosted the ICAO WACAF CODEVMET Mission in Freetown from Monday, July 7 to Friday, July 11, 2025.

This five-day technical mission brought together representatives from the Roberts Flight Information Region (Roberts FIR), meteorological service providers, and civil aviation authorities of the Roberts FIR member states—Liberia, Guinea, and Sierra Leone. The mission was organized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Western and Central African Office (WACAF) and focused on enhancing the quality and safety of aeronautical meteorological services in the subregion.

The primary objective of the CODEVMET Mission was to support member states in the implementation of Quality Management Systems (QMS) in accordance with ICAO Annex 3 standards and recommended practices. The mission also aimed to strengthen the oversight capabilities of Civil Aviation Authorities in ensuring compliance and service excellence in aeronautical meteorology.

“SLCAA is honored to have hosted this important mission,” said the Director General of SLCAA. “Enhancing meteorological services through quality management and regional cooperation is essential to safe and efficient air navigation. This initiative reaffirms our shared commitment to aligning with global aviation standards.”

Throughout the week, the mission conducted working sessions, technical assessments, and collaborative discussions designed to foster knowledge exchange and capacity building among participating states. Key focus areas included the development of QMS documentation, institutional oversight frameworks, and practical steps for sustainable implementation across the region.

The SLCAA extends its sincere appreciation to ICAO WACAF, the Roberts FIR Secretariat, and all participating stakeholders for their active involvement and collaboration. This mission marks another significant milestone in Sierra Leone’s ongoing efforts to enhance aviation safety and regulatory compliance through international cooperation and technical excellence.
