MILESTONE IN SIERRA LEONE’S AVIATION SECTOR: ADVANCING WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP IN AVSEC

The Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA) proudly celebrates a significant milestone in the country’s aviation sector, as Ms. Elizabeth V. Iscandari successfully completed the Air Cargo and Mail Security Course delivered under international standards at the Aviation Security Training Centre.

Notably, Ms. Iscandari distinguished herself as the only female participant in the course, demonstrating exceptional commitment, resilience, and professionalism in a highly specialized area of aviation security (AVSEC). The training, aligned with the global standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization, equips participants with critical competencies required to safeguard air cargo and mail operations against evolving security threats.

This achievement marks an important step forward in promoting gender inclusion and representation within Sierra Leone’s aviation industry—particularly in technical and security-focused roles where women remain underrepresented.

Speaking on this accomplishment, the SLCAA reaffirmed its commitment to fostering an inclusive aviation environment that empowers women to take on leadership and technical roles across the sector.

“This milestone reflects our ongoing dedication to building a diverse, skilled, and forward-looking aviation workforce. We are proud of Ms. Iscandari’s achievement and remain committed to creating opportunities that support women’s advancement in aviation security and beyond.”

The SLCAA continues to invest in human capital development, capacity building, and international training programs to ensure that Sierra Leone’s aviation sector meets global best practices in safety, security, and operational excellence.

As the Authority strengthens its aviation security framework, achievements such as this underscore the critical role of inclusion and diversity in driving innovation and sustainable growth within the industry.
